We don’t always consider our friend the bee when it comes to choosing a rose for the garden. In fact our choice can have a very real impact on bee welfare. The issue is that many modern roses are bred for style and aesthetics at the expense of the interests of the bee. Roses whose petals form a tight corolla prevent bees accessing the nectar and pollen at the centre of the flower. Wild Flower Seeds – Bee Gift

Wild flowers make for a glorious panorama in the garden as well as providing a fantastic larder for bees, butterflies and ladybirds. We offer a large range of seed mixes that will turn your garden into a buzzing paradise. We also stock seedballs which are the simplest way to propagate these plants. Bee Revival Kits

Have you ever come across an exhausted bumble bee while out on a walk? They are probably lacking the energy to fly and need nectar. If there are no flowers around to place them on you can turn to your handy bee revival kit. It  clips onto your key ring and contains a little bottle of reviving sugar syrup. How else can we help the bees?

There is lots that we can do to help save the bees, and most are small changes that will make a big difference!

• Bee hotels can be bought or made, and provide an excellent nesting site for solitary bees.
• Create a shallow water station with pebbles or stones so that bees have constant access to clean water and can drink without drowning.
• Leave sections of your garden untended so that native plants and wildflowers are able to grow, providing a much needed food source year-round. Ground-nesting bees would also appreciate some patches of bare soil and undisturbed grass margins.
• Avoid using harsh chemicals, pesticides and insecticides in your garden – bees are insects too! Instead, use environmentally friendly methods of feeding and protecting your garden, such as SB Plant Invigorator or English Roses Rose Foliar Feed.
