Q. What’s in the kit?

A bee revival kit from Beevive comprises a little bottle that contains a sugar water solution. The bottle is securely housed within a keychain pod, made from either aluminium or bamboo. There are full instructions as to how to care for the bee and even how to identify it.

Q. How do you use the bee revival kit?

There are a couple of steps to take before you turn to your kit. Firstly, is the bee wet? If it is, then place it in the sun to dry off. Alternatively, find a flower nearby and pop the bee onto it. If none of these solutions are appropriate, then administer the solution from your bee revival kit. Don’t force it to feed or you’ll end up with a sticky mess. Be patient, as it may take up to half an hour for the bee to recover.

Q. Why should we help the bees?

Unfortunately bees are facing significant challenges due to loss of habitat, harmful pesticides and potentially climate change. In the last 100 years we have lost 97% of our wild flower meadows. 35 bee species are under threat of extinction with volatile weather conditions impacting hibernation and nesting.

You can help bees with small gestures such as leaving accessible water out for them to converting some of your garden to a wild flower meadow. Here are some other great ideas:

• Create a shallow water station for thirsty bees.
• Consider carrying a bee revival keyring, so you can help tired bees when you are out and about!
