Keep roses well watered during any dry spells and continue to deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers. If you grow a rose for its hips, leave the faded flowers in place so the hips can develop. September is also a good time to prune rambling roses once they have finished flowering, and to tie in and train new growth on climbing and rambling varieties, while the stems are still flexible.
