Here at English Roses we have put a lot of thought into how our roses are packaged and delivered to you safely. We have worked closely with our packaging designers to develop a bespoke box that ensures your rose can travel miles and still arrive in perfect condition. We’d like to think that not only is our delivery box practical, but it’s beautiful too, meaning you receive a gift that is ready to give.
We take care to be as sustainable as possible, using recycled materials and avoiding single use plastics. Our packaging is fully recyclable, even down to the strapping on our cardboard boxes. Our gift wrapping options contain natural materials, many of which can be repurposed and reused.

How We Package Our Potted Roses: #
We grow our roses in large 5.5L pots. To protect the rose during transit, we secure all potted roses within a protective cardboard tray. This is then strapped in place within our custom designed outer box.
During the checkout, we have a variety of gift wrap options available. If you have selected a cotton gift bag, your rose will be wrapped within this upon arrival. Wooden tags will be hanging from the rose or attached to the strapping, along with an information label and your free gift message. We place additional greetings cards securely within the protective cardboard tray.
We have designed our boxes to open and close with ease, making it ideal for transportation or gifting at a later date.
We recommend unboxing your rose on the day of delivery and placing it outside straight away. Roses do best when in fresh air and natural light, even if it’s cold or frosty!
How to Unbox a Potted Rose #
- Open the outer cardboard box by simply cutting the recyclable card strapping and sliding open the long edge of the box to reveal your new rose.
- Carefully pull out the protective cardboard tray.
- Cut the strapping on the cardboard tray and unfold the tabs at the top.
- Gently lift the rose out of the protective tray and place the rose outside.

How We Package Our Gift Planted Roses: #
At English Roses, we offer an exclusive planting service. We take the rose of your choice and plant it into a luxury, large willow basket.
A cardboard topper is securely strapped to the top of the willow basket, ensuring all the soil stays in the basket during transportation.
We then strap the willow basket into the outer box, to avoid the rose moving or falling during transit.
Gift wrapping and additional items are either strapped to the willow basket, or placed within the delivery box. Large additional items are packaged and sent separately.
How to Unbox a Planted Rose: #
- Cut the cardboard strapping on the outside of the box.
- Slide open the long edge of the box to reveal your new rose.
- The willow basket is secured to the base of the box. Simply cut the strapping that protrudes outside of the box, along the box’s base and slide the rose out.
- Further cardboard strapping holds a topper in place. To make the rose patio ready, cut the strapping and remove the topper.
We have designed our boxes to open and close with ease, making it ideal for transportation or gifting at a later date. Once the strapping has been removed, ensure the box remains upright during any further transportation.

Gift Wrap #
At English Roses, we offer a variety of gift wrap options to make your rose even more special. Our dispatch team will carefully add the selected gift wrap to your rose, ready for delivery.
If you have selected a willow basket with your rose, our Rose Care Team will have planted this before dispatch.

Pot Sizes #
Our large willow basket is exclusive to English Roses and has an approximate volume of 14L. Roses bought with this upgrade will be potted by our expert team prior to dispatch. The pre-potted roses make a wonderful patio ready gift! Compact patio varieties will be happy potted within the willow basket for up to 5 years. Slightly larger roses such as floribunda and hybrid tea roses may need repotting after 2 years.
Please keep potted roses well watered, as they cannot access water from the surrounding soil like planted roses can! Daily watering in the summer months is essential, and even in wet weather do not rely on rainwater. Please see our watering guide for more information.
Our standard containers are made from recyclable plastic and have a volume of approx 5.5L. Roses will be happy in these for a month or so before needing to be repotted or planted. The recyclable pots are not intended to be used as permanent containers.
Gift Planted Roses #
All of our roses can be planted into our luxury willow basket. Although, we have a range of pre-planted gift roses for a variety of occasions:

- Mother’s & Father’s Day
Can I re-box the rose to give as a gift? #
Yes! As you can see from the videos above, our boxes do not need ripping, simply cut the cardboard straps that secure it together. This means that the boxes are able to be folded back together for transporting or gifting.
